Frank Vacit Iconic Hopi Bird Bolo Tie With Original Tips ca 1950

$989.00

This is a spectacular vintage bolo tie attributed to Zuni master Frank Vacit.

This features slightly raised inlaid turquoise, jet, mother of pearl, and red abalone.

The bolo backing is handmade, in a W shape.

It dates to the 1940s-1950s.

The design is published in Toshio Sei’s book Hopi Bird and Sun Face in Zuni Jewelry, 2011, p. 66.

Sei documents the unique crescent stamp featured on this bird’s wings and tail feathers that constitutes a sort of signature.

This is in very fine condition for its age. The inlay is in excellent condition. This shows moderate patina overall and some light wear commensurate with age. The leather shows moderate to heavy signs of wear; it will need to be replaced eventually, but appears functional.

The slide measures approximately 71 mm in height (approximately 2.75”). The tips measure approximately the same height. The overall length of the bolo tie is 36”, 18” down each leg to the end of the tip. The total weight is approximately 42.1 grams.
